I have a 6th generation iPod nano. It's brand new as it is a replacement to an older one. Upon it's first connection iTunes error message said it was corrupt, it recommended restoring it or reconnecting it. Either did not work. However I connected it to my girlfriend's laptop and it worked fine, is this a problem with the iPod (as apple have said they will replace it again) or could it be a problem with the laptop?

Take your iPod Nano and laptop to the Apple Store. Let them see first hand your issue.

I live quite far from the apple store, and get very little free time. I'd hope to be able to see if it could be solved here.
It's hard to tell if the problem is with your laptop as none of us can actually "see" it t know what is actually going on.

Not really. In any case, I'm now pretty sure this is a problem with my laptop, not the ipod - see main thread here https://discussions.apple.com/thread/3615555?tstart=0 .
I had the same problem with my iPod Nano 6th Gen., on my Mac. After I reset the Nano, did the "restore" in iTunes, and restarted my computer (in that order), my Nano worked perfectly.
