Dynex dx-cr121 external card reader not recognized on 10.6.8

Hello!

The Dynex dx-cr121 is an external card reader tha tI've been using for about a year. It has always worked fine on my Macbook Pro (OSX 10.6.8), but suddenly, it's not being recognized when I plug it in to the USB slot.

I have checked the Disk Utility to see if it's on there, and it's not. I also know the card itself (compact flash) is not corrupt, because I can view the images on my camera, which is what I primarily use the reader for.

There are 2 lights on the reader: one is a power indicator, and the other illuminates when there is a card to read and it's plugged in. Both of those lights are working accordingly.

I have searched countless other forums and such, but have found nothing but other people having the same problem (no solution)

Any thoughts? I don't know a ton about Mac, but are there drivers or something I could download? Was there something about the most recent OSX update that could be causing this?

Please help!

Thank you

Macbook Pro, Mac OS X (10.6.5)

Thanks, but without buying a new one, is there a solution to this problem?

Try it with a different cable. Try it on another port. Try it on another machine. If it doesn't work, it's a dead unit and needs replacement.

If it does work elsewhere, that's another story.

Yeah, thanks for that. I'm not completely oblivious. Just need to know if there is a driver or a patch that I can download to fix this problem.

Sorry, I have no way of knowing what you know and what you don't (darn tinfoil hat broke 😉). The point is, troubleshooting leads to an answer, like if it won't work anywhere, it's broken, and spending the rest of your life looking for a driver or patch might be a bit of a waste of time. Of course, ymmv. Have you checked the Dynex website for updates or contacted the seller about a possible replacement?

Yes, I've searched everywhere I can think of, including Dynex themselves. I'm not going to devote my entire life to trying to resolve this, but I came on here hoping to find a solution to fix the problem, rather than just buy a new reader, as, like I said, I've looked everywhere that I know of. I even found a driver for the exact card reader that I have, but apparently it was only for OS, not OSX.

I've done much troubleshooting, and from my orignal post, I really don't think it's the reader itself, but mroe of a software update issue with Apple. It worked a month ago, and now it's just not detected.

Thanks for your help W, but any other thoughts, anyone?

Okay, after MUCH frustration with this thing, nothing seemed to be adding up to one thing or another. It was just a big jumble.

SO - I decided to physically look inside the reader. There was a broken pin in the port of the card that I was trying to read from.

So thanks for all your help, but it turned out to not be a software issue at all.
