Q: Boot Camp Problems. The disk is not journaled.

Hi

I am trying to install Windows 7 Home Premium on a MBP 2.3 i7 10.6.8. I have the hard drive partitioned with 4 different partitions. Now I want to install Windows and when I launch the Boot Camp Assistant it says:

"Boot Camp Assistant Can not Be Used. The disk is not journaled. You must enable journaling using Disk Utility before using the Boot Camp Assistant."

However all the partitions in disk utility have the "enable journaling" greyed out except the partion that contains the disk image of Snow Leopard Install Disk. I have tried to eject this partition prior lauching boot camp but I get the same error. Any ideas how to solve it?

Thanks!

MacBook Pro, Mac OS X (10.6.8)

The message is meaningless. It should add "free space is fragmented and lacks contiguous free space at the end of the partition. Please backup, erase, and do a restore with either TimeMachine or clone."

    Hi Hatter.

Thanks. Is not possible to fix it without having to restore? I have around 600GB of data in the MBP.

and in case there is no other possibility beside erasing and restore, should I erase and restore all partitions or just the one in which I want to create the partition to install Windows 7?

I have erased and format Mac Os Extended (Journaled) the partition in which I want to install Windows 7 and restored from my Time Machine Backup but I still get exactly the same error.

you have to erase the raw hard drive, something like "WD6400AAKS" or something.

I don't like or recommend using Apple TM and find that clone using SuperDuper is ideal. What it does is consolidate folders and free space so you have all the free space at the end in one contiguous chunk.

Running any kind of installers etc will fragment the free space.

Some people find that they also need to run Disk Repair which has to be done from another OS X drive or DVD.

Thanks! finaly I have installed Windows 7. During the process I found out that, at least on my system, I can not install Windows 7 if the hard disk has more than 1 partition (+ the Bootcamp´s partition).

So I had to format the hard disk, Clone back my Macintosh HD in one only partition, run bootcamp to create the Windows partition, then run the windows installer and REFORMAT this bootcamp partition to install windows. Then come back to OSX to make the 4 partitions I work with.

I also was experiencing the same problem and was able to solve it in minutes without losing any of my data.
Simply open Disk Utility and from the partition menu you remove all the extra partitions plus your recovery one.
Open Boot Camp and should work fine
