Separating one account into two

My son and I used the same itunes account for a long time, but now that he's on his own we need to figure out how to separate the music into two accounts. Is this possible? Help!

Cindy, Copy the entire iTunes folder onto his machine. Then you can each delete whatever you don't want. Thus you will each have your own library going forward.

As TT2 notes, items purchased from the iTunes Store are tied in perpetuity to the account from which they were purchased. If you have any content requiring authorization, such as apps, videos, or songs that have not yet been upgraded, he will need to authorize his computer to your account.

Thanks for your reply! So we will be using the same account on two different computers?

Cindy, Up to you of course, and I don't know your son's age, but kids don't stay kids forever. Sooner or later they may have their own computer or their own dorm room or their own apartment or their own family. IMHO, the sooner they start their own account, the better.
