Hi - have ipod classic and windows XP. Not uploaded new music for months. Went to add 4 songs. All songs deleted from ipod. Ipod will not sync. It gets to 850 songs and stops error 50. It disconnects states unknown error 13010. Deletes if try again

Try removing the iTunes Library Genius.itdb. file and restarting iTunes. Head to the My Music folder and select the iTunes folder and move the above mentioned file to another place such as your Desktop. Reboot your computer and try syncing your iPod again via iTunes.

This worked a treat. I thought that I was going to have huge issues with my itunes as everytime i connected my ipod classic to itunes and pressed the sync button it just froze. I then couldn't eject my ipod nor close itunes. I did exactly what you said and also enabled the genius function on my itunes and it worked a treat. Thankyou planb77 😀
Thanks for taking time to help B-rock. No success. Still cant sync and same .50 error at about 900 tunes added but also getting message that "Disk could not be read or written to" and "duplicate filename cannot sync". Any other suggestions? Glad it worked for you Mandie

I had thanks B-rock but have given it another try but it hasnt resolved problem. After restore it sync'ed quickly again and got slower up to 890 tunes when it stopped - error 50 again, then error 13010 cannot sync and the song ot stopped on could not be read or written. Tried Itunes diagostic and it advised no Ipod connected although it was.
If it hadnt cost so much it would have left by a window now!!!! Last resort may be to remove itunes and reinstall although my library is not backed up anywhere so I understand there is a small risk I lose that. But if you have any other suggestions I am all eyes! Once again thanks for taking the time and trouble to help.

Yes, I would try uninstalling all Apple related software on your system using the instructions in this Apple support document.

Uninstalling iTunes has no affect on the content that is currently stored. Once you have re-installed it should all be right where you left it. 🙂

Dang. If you are up to it, take your iPod into your local Apple store/Genius Bar and explaining your situation to them.

Hard Drive failure with mine. Had to replace. Community advice on checking your hard drive was helpful, Good luck and if you need help in checking your hard drive I will see what I can remember!!
Whytcwm - I just spent the day trying to deal with the same problem you had, no luck. when you say hard drive failure did you mean of your PC or of your iPod?
Hi nosedive - Ipod hard drive failure. If you search for a Community answer on testing for hard drive failure there was a fairly simple step by step guide there that indicates if your hard drive is having errors - in the Apple shop the girl said you dont need that guide just listen and you can hear the hard drive!!

has anyone tried solving a sync problem by formatting the drive of the pod using disk utilities? I see specific advice on the tech support not to do this but some websites say it can isolate any bad sectors. Would be interested to know if anyone here has any experience
