I have had a weird symbol appear next to the network symbol of 2 linked circles, what does it mean? My phone crashed just after I saw it the forst time I am not sure if it is linked.

I have had a weird symbol appear next to the network symbol of 2 linked circles, what does it mean? My phone crashed just after I saw it the forst time I am not sure if it is linked.

I showed it to a friend who has an iphone and has never seen the symbol before

That sounds very much like the Personal Hotspot icon. Look in Settings (just under wifi) to see if this is on. Or perhaps you were near someone whose iPhone had this on and accidentally joined their network.
