WYSIWYG PDF for OS 9?

Hi I am using OS 9 because my music composition program (Mosaic) refuses to update. I was wondering anyone knows a way to use a what you see is what you get (WYSIWYG) PDF. Print to PDF is distorted and unreadable. Thanks for any thoughts.

Print to PDF is probably the most common way of making a PDF in OS 9, other than using Acrobat, since the OS itself can not make one.

There should be no distortion. However, if you are making one of musical notation, it may not behave well if any scaling is applied to the image creation. Check in Page Setup as well as the Print dialog - make sure all scaling settings are set to 100%, and no setting for 'fit to page' has been selected.

Possible additional workarounds - try taking a screenshot of the full page of the file. You could then publish that 'as-is', such as a jpeg image; or try using that to make a PDF.

Hi Don,

Sorry I am so long in writing. The PDF was set already to 100% and there was no "fit to page" option, so that didn't apply. Also, changing the various variables made no difference. It still was distorted: all half notes with strange clefs and barlines.

I also tried taking screen shots as you suggested, and these were good, except the results aren’t as well framed as a PDF would be: they have the whole window or screen rather than just the page.

However, the way that I have been making PDFs should continueto work well enough: I print a copy andfeed it through a contemporary all in one printer that can create PDFs.

Thanks for your ideas: the screen shot idea is a good alternative thatI can use in a pinch if anything happens to my printers.

All the best,

Dave

You can constrict the screenshot to a specific area, rather than grabbing the entire screen.

To do that, press Command-Shift-4 and the cursor will change to a crosshair. Use that to drag a rectangle around only the area you want to capture (which, if you wish, can include drop menus and popup menus). When you release the cursor, a screenshot will be taken of just the area you enclosed. Makes for a tidier image.
