MacBook Pro Logic board Failure (no water damage)

Hey everyone,

My MacBook pro logic board failed the other day :(. So I toke it to the apple store and (lucky I have apple care) and they said no problem and they shipped it off. I expected no problem because I have never spilled any thing on it. So you obviously you know this story isn't going to end happily. I get a call from apple stating my computer has water damage!! It will cost $755 to repair! I bicker on the phone a little bit but the lady seemed really annoyed and I knew I wasn't going to get any where with here so I just hung up. I read on a few forums and knew my computer doesn't have the nvida graphics card problem. The only water damage I think my computer could have possibly gotten is when I take it in the shower to play music, is the steam from the shower enough to wreck the computer? And the time of the crash wasn't after I toke a shower or anything, I don't want to yell at apple for a while about how it has no water damage if truly it does. Thank you!

There are moisture sensors in all Macs (and iPhones). These allow the technicians to know if the machine has been exposed to high levels of moisture. Extremely high levels of moisture such as may be experienced in a closed bathroom with a hot shower can actually cause more damage than an accidental quick spill of water. If you accidentally spill a few drops of water on your computer, you can often quickly wipe it up... or turn it upside down to prevent the water from getting into the system. As steam is a vapor, it can penetrate easily into all the nooks and crannies in your MacBook. The operating humidity levels for the MacBook Pro are 0-90% non-condensing. A bathroom with a shower running is going to produce close to 100% humidity... and the typical mirror in such a bathroom would let you know that it is condensing.

I concur with JoeyR. I would expect all four moisture sensors in your MBP to have been tripped by the extreme humidity in your bathroom, which has been drawn inside the computer by its cooling fans.

Taking electronics of any kind into the bathroom while you shower is a pretty sure-fire recipe for serious trouble of one kind or another. Wash without music.
