iPhone (Verizon) warranty through Apple?

I am currently on a Verizon family plan with my parents, and I am looking to upgrade to an iPhone next month. My fiancee is on AT&T currently and plans to switch to Verizon next July when her contract is up. At that point, I would leave my parents family plan and setup a new family plan between the two of us. What I have gathered from Verizon is that when you leave a family plan and sign an Assumption of Liability to take over your phone line, it is considered a transfer of ownership, and the warranty on the phone (through Verizon) is considered void. Since I plan on purchasing AppleCare to extend my warranty an extra year, this has me concerned.

My question is - will Apple still honor their own warranty for the iPhone even after Verizon won't?

Verizon does, in fact, fulfill warranty repairs on iPhones. The customer can go to a Verizon Store or to an Apple Store. the advantage to going to the Apple Store is that Apple seem to keep replacement units in stock. Verizon has to ship them. Also, Apple has beem known to replace iPhones with cracked glass as a one time courtesy. Verizon will not. You can also purchase an extended warranty through Verizon that is different than AppleCare. It does not include the free phone support from Apple. Additionally, Verizon sells insurance for the iPhone, though that is not entirely relevant to the OP's question.
