Ummm.... why is my replacement iPod nano engraved?
I just got my replacement iPod nano back from apple. The one I had for about 3 months was from the bad batch of cracked nanos. Anyway, I asked for a replacement using the online form. To make shipping quicker, I chose to not have my nano engraved (the original one was engraved). I just got my nano back today, 2 weeks after I sent the online form. My nano is engraved. It is actually engraved with the same text as before (my full name). I'm not complaining, but did apple actually engrave it for me, or did they just give me the same iPod case as before? I have looked at the iPod and it is not cracked, so they did definetley give me a replacement.
Also, I sent the iPod to the apple canada, which is in Markham. Apple shipped the iPod back to me with FedEx (before they had used purolator). I was checking the status using the order number apple gave me and my iPod hit hawaii on the way to Ontario. The iPod must have came from China, and not Markham.

Maybe they replace all iPods the same way they received it, regardless of what you requested. So if you sent in an iPod with your name on it, they'll send back another with your name on it (after all, you may have paid to get the engraving, and they don't want to annoy you by ripping you off...).
As for it being shipped from China, I believe that Canada's Markham office is just an office. The plant is in Taiwan somewhere.
If your original iPod was personalized by Apple, your replacement iPod will be automatically personalized with the same text. If your original iPod was custom laser engraved by another company, your replacement iPod will not be personalized.
I believe this is regardless what is requested on the online order form for service/replacement but I'm not sure.
What happens when an iPod is serviced?
iPod equipment sent in for service is replaced with functionally equivalent new, used, or refurbished iPod equipment. Service is processed through AppleCare's direct mail-in system. You will not receive the same iPod that was sent in for service.
If your original iPod was personalized by Apple, your replacement iPod will be automatically personalized with the same text. So this is a quote from the apple website. However I have just got my replacement nano and it's not personalised. My previous nano was, so how should I go about it getting engraved? Please help!!!
You will not receive the same iPod that was sent in for service This is just legalese because they can't guarantee to send the same one back. I doubt very much if they say, "Can't send him this one. It the same one he sent in and we repaired it."
It simply too much work in tracking an iPod thru repair and getting it back to the original owner when they can just send a new/replacement.
The same happened to me. I just had my nano replaced and even though the original was engraved, the replacement was not.
Did you figure out what to do?
Shall I send it back and get them to engrave it? Will they do it?
Anybody else had the same problem?
Thanks!

That's what I think. They just give you a replacement just like your original. =)
If you checked off the "non-personalized" box on the web form, it should have generated a non-personalized replacement. Perhaps the box you checked somehow got unchecked before you submitted the form.
