google earth crashes

I'm running 10.6.8. I just downloaded Google Earth 6 for Intel and it works fine.

Have you tried renaming or deleting from the library preferences com.googleEarthPlus.plist and com.google.keystone.agent.plist ? Sometimes, the .plist files can become corrupted and cause application issues. Applications normally create a new .plist file if the existing one can't be found.

I continue to have this same problem. I've deleted Google Earth / re-installed it / deleted the '....plist' files noted by BGreg above. It seems I've only had the problem since getting our new iMac Oct 2010 with Snow Leopard. Had no problems with it on the slower 2002 iMac 15" FP with OS 10.4.

Any other suggestions?

Google Earth works fine (though slow) on our PCs at work. I would have thought on a newer Mac OS it would run like a charm. Yet it starts to open; begins to show the startup tip screen and main window behind it, then quits.

I also get no '...quit unexpectedly' notice as I might expect.

Here's all the stuff you should delete for google earth:

Thanks, X423424X, but no go unfortunately. Immediate crash and dialogue box opens asking if I want to report to Apple (which I've done twice now).

That's sounds like a conflict with something you added. So please post the contents of the following:

your login items

~/Library/LaunchAgents

/Library/LaunchAgents

/Library/LaunchDaemons

/Library/StartupItems

Use an App like AppCleaner to detect all of the "Google Earth" files in your directory. Delete the ones that say something like "crash."

Hopefully these images display correctly. I switched over to Advanced Editor and they seemed to revert to "?" icons.

If this doesn't work, I'll retry. Thanks for the help so far.

Either there's nothing in those directories or nothing is showing up except titles in your post. For the login items just type their names into your reply. For the rest just cut/paste the output from the following lines in terminal:

Aarggghhh, where to start! So many addons. Trying to find the cuplrit (or culprits) is going to be problematic.

I guess you should do some control experiments first. Log into another account and see if you still can cause the crash. If it still crashes then boot in safe mode and see if you can crash it with that.

If it doesn't crash from another account then the search can be limitied to just your specific account. If it does crash then the suspects are global. In that case doing a safe boot suppresses all these add ons and the crash shouldn't occur. That's the theory anyway.

Booting in safe mode is the moral equivalent of deleting all those files. Not sense going through all the work if you don't have to. Test if first.

But yes, if you want to trash that stuff be my guest. It's not the safest thing to do unless you are aware of the consequences. Be prepared, for example, of possible future complaints from the various software that would require the stuff you deleted. If you still have the installers for (some of) that stuff, perhaps they provide uninstallers to more cleanly get rid of the code. While you manually deleting that stuff will stop it from running you still will be wasting some disk space with all the other stuff those utilities installed (the apps, preferences, stuff in Application Support, etc.).

Generally those that says something is "must have" are the authors of those "must have" utilities! 😉 There are very few add ons like this I consider "must have" (for me Little Snitch, Carbon Copy Cloner, immediately come to mind).

I don't really see an answer here. I have the exact same problem. I have deleted the whole application and anything I could find in the libraries. And reinstalled it, but it is still crashing right after it opens.

I did not install the chrome browser, is it a necessity for this program to work?
