Why do I have to give my credit card information together a free app?

I have an apple Id and when I try to get a free app it says I have to give my credit card information. This reply ****** me off! It's called free so why the he'll does apple need to know my credit card number!? This is ******* ridiculous >:(

Because Apple requires a valid payment method, even for free apps, unless you set up a new iTunes account that is only good for free apps. See:

i agree that ridiculous, someone already stole my dang ipod. So give evryone wit a third grade hacking skill a chance to wipe me out.
