Hi there!

Could you please provide us with some more info about your situation? Here's a few examples of relevent data:

  • Did you set up an account to access an instant messaging service? (AOL, MobileMe, etc)
  • Did you verify your username and password?
  • Did you check the error logs with the Console (/Applications/Utilities/Console.app)?
  • Did you try turning off the firewall briefly?

Good luck!

Cheers.

Hey ,

Thanks for your concern..

I've tried many things like trying to find out through youtube , reading reviews but nothing worked.

I've no clue about my mobile me account as till now I haven't used it and doesn't even know what it is for.

yeah my gmail account is verified as i open it randomly on safari.

The error while connecting to gmail account on ichat shows "iChat can't communicate with jabber account "nitin.bhalla93@gmail.com" could not connect to host talk.google.com "

  1. The Firewall was turned off i turned it on by reading a review on apple.com
  2. I added ichat , adium into it by going into advanced settings.
  3. I've it connected by a lan cable in my house.

I really need help as Previously I was in kuwait and there I was connected by a wifi router but still my ichat never worked..

Hi,

This only works if....

1) It a Google Mail account (Other Google Account do not work in Clients outside a web page login)

2) That you have Enable Talk on your Google Mail Account.

3) That the name as you type it in to iChat is exactly the same as how it appears when you are logged in to the Google Web Mail page (it makes a difference if you have an @googlemail.com or an @gmail.com one)

4) If the Mac Firewall is On iChat must be in the list of allowed Apps.

5) As iChat uses ports above port 1024 then the router must have the ports open as well. (most routers allow ports below 1024 as this allows Mail and Web Browsing, File Sharing and others out-of-the-box)

Although the Link Cold-- gave is somewhat out of date (For iChat 3 and Tiger) it is possible to transfer what is written there to later versions of iChat.

IF your router has UPnP then Enable that to open the ports with the least amount of fuss.

Hi,

So... you have a Googlemail ID that ends in the form @gmail.com and this is entered in to iChat using the same password you use to access the GoogleMail Web Page.

Have you been to the account settings at Google and is Talk listed in the active items you use there ?

This should then show you the Chat option on your iGoogle page and on the Web Mail page.

Ok,

So In iChat you went to iChat Menu > Preferences > Accounts and use the + Button at the bottom of the list.

In the new Screen you choose GoogleTalk and entered your ID and the password that normally gets you into Google.

From there the Buddy List pops up but soon reports the issue with Name/Password.

If you go to iChat Menu > Preferences > Accounts > (Google Account Highlighted) > Server Settings tab is the Port listed port 5223 ?

I take the server name is talk.google.com as that is reported in your earlier post.

AS you can't login and are Logged ut change the port (which should be black text) to port 443.

The Jabber server at Google accepts logins on port 443

Port 443 is used by Web Browsers on secure site (Such as these Discussions) and as you can post here it must be open in your Router.

Can you now Log in ?

This will tend to prove that ports are not open in your Router.

You will need to sort this out to get other functions of iChat to work properly (Like Video or Audio Chats)

Hi,

Can you chat on the Google Web Mail Page (Or iGoogle) ?

i.e does the name work in Google's Own Chat ?

Do you have Parental Controls On for the Mac User Account you login to your Mac with ?

(The message for this is usually different)

Just to check.

In the Server Settings tab is the SSL Box ticked ?

I did not say anythi8ng about before as it should be ON. (Even if you change the port)
