I am using QT7 Pro, but I need the entire length of my video. Can you explain the scale function a bit more or point me to a good rereference for this, as I don't follow how this will help me.
The entire length of the movie is preserved but QT plays it faster. How good it will look will depend on how fast your system is. Audio, if included, will shift frequencies like a tape played at fast speed. The basic work flow is to use the "Add to Selection & Scale" Edit menu option to copy the source file to a secondary file of fractional duration.
Example: if the source file is 5 minutes in duration and you want to play it back at 5 times the speed of the source file, you would copy it to menory and use the "Add to Selection & Scale" option to add the data in memory to an audio or video file of 1 minute duration. This will squeeze your five minutes of data into a one minute file. Then all you need to do is delete the track used to scale the source data and save the resulting file. This method is quicker than exporting frames at a selected frequency from the source file as an image sequence which physically drops frames either in the export or import process to "speed up" the file playback.
