Unable to download a .DMG file

This starting happenin to me soon after purchasing my MBA: When I try to download a .dmg file with Safari or even on Chrome . No file is downloaded.it open up in new tab and the black grey page jst freezes and hangs.

The thing is: If the link points directly to the .dmg file and I do a "save link as", the download just works fine. Unfortunately, not all downlaod links point directly to the file.

As far as I can see, this only concerns .dmg files, otherwise browsing and downloading works ok.

I have upgraded to the new OS LION also but it remains the same.
I have cleared the cache and history and everything in the browser. I have uninstalled all the third party apps which i installed.

Kindly help..

i was suffering from the same problem and i fixed it

just go in Finder on your mac =>click on GO => then Computer => you will find Macintosh HD click on it => go in Library => check out for Internet Plug-Ins => in that you will find speed download booster plugins just delete it and restart your mac....

thats all.....

I have this same problems and have tried all the solutions offered here, but just the same, still not able to download .dmg files. Safari just gives me the link and a black screen. I did not have any speed downloader installed, or igetter either. Any other solutions known for this problem ? Thanks

Try this: In Safari, go to Preferences > General and uncheck the box for "Open 'safe' files after downloading."

You will then have to double-click downloaded files manually to open them. It's safer this way, as the auto-open feature has been a vector for malware in the past.

If you still have trouble, then we know that the problem is related to the downloading, rather than the mounting of the disk image.

What sort of third-party software do you have installed, if any? I know there are apps like GlimmerBlocker or LittleSnitch that can selectively block network traffic. Highly unusual to block .dmgs though.

Are you able to download .zip files?

Had the same problem. Firefox solved it.

That's more of a workaround than a solution. But if you enjoy Firefox, then I suppose that works too.

Ziatron , U wont believe but m not even able to download the firefox DMG file. have to download it on to some other computer and transfer it to this one to run it.
