MBP does not detect Dell U2412m monitor with uDP to DP cable

I received a new Dell U2412m monitor a few days ago, and although my miniDisplayPort to DisplayPort cable worked for a day, now I can't get the monitor to display an image. I can get the monitor to work with a borrowed uDP-DVI adapter, however.

What happens is that the laptop screen goes momentarily blue when I plug in the displayport cable, which you'd expect, but the Dell screen stays black and goes into power save mode.

I had success in getting the monitor to see the laptop by removing the cable at the monitor end and then replugging while the laptop was running. I also removed the disconnected DVI cable, not sure if that was a factor. I will leave this question open for a week or so to see if the problem returns. If it does, I think I will return the monitor to Dell.

Hmmmmmm.... Frustrating. I have the Dell U2412m monitor, a MacBook pro, and a mini-thingy connector for the MBP to DVI cable - but no matter which order I plug them together, the U2412 monitor does not work. When connecting the cables, the MBP screen goes blue for a few seconds, then reverts to exactly how it was before connecting.

Anyone got any other ideas?

I know it's frustrating! The availability of a displayport was the whole reason why I bought this display. Initially the screen did not work for me either. What I did was first connect it with the MiniDisplayPort - VGA adapter, and then disable the DDC/CI setting on the screen. Then I plugged the displayport cable in again and it worked immediately!

I don't totally understand this fix. I am having a similar issue and would love some help. I am using a Macbook Pro Retina 13" with a Dell U2412M. I have a mini DisplayPort to DisplayPort cable and plugged everything in the order the Dell handbook recommended. DisplayPort, USB, power, turned it on. Everytime it's the same. The Macbook screen goes blue and the Apple galaxy image pops up on the monitor, but nothing else. I have checked the input settings and tried both automatic and display port. It is the galaxy emblem either way. Can anyone help? Thanks!

In my case, I eventually gave up and took the adapter back to the shop. They tested it - found it was faulty and replaced it. No wonder it was so frustrating! It was the last thing I expected to be faulty.

Turns out it was not a genuine Apple cable. Will I never learn?! I don't think I have ever been so stumped as this with a simple computer problem for so long!
