photo booth effects

My first iMac is 1 year old. I have always had "pixellated" backdrops in Photo Booth, but now I see that I don't even have the button anymore to choose any backdrops. Does anybody know where it went? And, no, it's not under the rug or anything 🙂

iMac, Mac OS X (10.6.8)

Hi,

The Effects and Backdrops are Quartz files (they take the camera feed and work their magic)

They are held in the System/Library/Compositions Folder and are used by iChat and the Photo Booth app.

Do you have the same issue in iChat ?

So...

The Compositions folder could have been emptied somehow.

It could have been moved so that Photo Booth cannot "see" it.

Photo Booth could have a fault.

Do you have the Quartz Files ?

HI,

I was hoping that you did use iChat and could tell me the Effects and Backdrops worked from there.

Lets try deleting com.apple.PhotoBooth.plist

You will find this my navigating to your Home Folder/Library/Preferences

(in Lion use the Finder's Go Menu > Go to Folder and enter ~/Library/Preferences )

Drag this file to the Trash and restart Photo Booth.

This will lose the markers to the Pictures and Video already created although the originals will still be your Home Folder/Pictures/Photo Booth (Meaning the "tray" of previous items in Photo Booth will be empty)

Hi,

There seem to have been some changes to the way Photo Booth works with the Quartz files that make up the Effects.

I have some Demo ones from iChatFX

Some of these only display the effect in Photo Booth (minus the person)

I have not worked out why they react differently to the same files which play OK in iChat.

As you have done I have tried both 32 Bit and 64 bit in Photo Booth with no change in behaviour.
