My son tried to restore from his computer but he was unable to access itunes even after he reinstalled it. I tried to restore it from mine but all I would get after it it tried for a while was error code 1604, I tried a different usb port but still the same result. My son's ipod has just the connect to itunes screen after the failed restore.

Error 1604: This error is often related to USB timing. Try changing USB ports, uninstalling and reinstalling USB ports, and other available USB troubleshooting steps (troubleshooting USB connections, device not recognized properly, computer won't recognize a FireWire or USB device). If you are using a dock, bypass it and connect directly to the white Apple USB dock connector cable. If the issue persists on a known-good computer, the device may need service.

If the issue is not resolved by USB isolation troubleshooting, and another computer is not available, try these steps to resolve the issue:

  1. Connect the device to iTunes, confirm that the device is in Recovery Mode. If it's not in Recovery Mode, put it into Recovery Mode.
  2. Restore and wait for error 1604.
  3. When prompted, click OK.
  4. Close and reopen iTunes while iPhone remains connected.
  5. iPhone should now be recognized in Recovery Mode again.
  6. Try to restore again.

If the steps above do not resolve the issue, try restoring using a known-good USB cable, computer, and network connection.

I have the same issue, starting my not-lucky Friday day with my iPod 4g32g message asking for activation ended with the same message: THIS DEVICE IS NOT REGISTRED AS PART OF THE IPHONE DEVELOPER PROGRAM.##br####br## ....

I have an io5beta7 installed and I'm enrolled in the ios Developer Program. My ipod helped for my apps already on the Apple store.

Iphoto (on my mac) was able to get my photos and video. But can't restore : too much work, data, memos, .... and events (didn't sync for the last 2 weeks)

Keep waiting and reading, many out there are on the same boat.
