Flashing Apple Logo when plugged into power source and wont charge. When flipped to "Hold" it boots up... When "hold" turned off it goes back to flashing logo. help?!?!

My Ipod nano 4th generation went through a house fire about 6 months ago. The ipod worked fine before the fire(it just wasnt charged), andnow when i plug it up to charge it just flashes the Apple Logo. When I switch the "hold" button to on, the ipod boots up. But since its on "hold" it won't charge and as soon as I switch the "hold" button off it turns off and just flashes the Apple Logo. It only does this when its plugged in and has some sort of power connected. How do you get your Ipod to charge with the "hold" on? It won't let me put the Ipod in disk mode because all it does is flash the logo.
