Time Capsule firewall
Does anyone know if there are settings to adjust the Time Capsule firewall? It appears to be blocking some of the applications I use on my Mac, iPhone and iPad.
Thanks,
Jackie

There is no firewall in the TC. It does have NAT which can block things, especially if you have double NAT.. ie the TC not acting as the main router.. but another modem router also doing routing role.. this double NAT situation can certainly cause issues and block things.
Make sure in the network there is but one router.
Tell us what apps you are having issues with and what ports they require. You might need to do some port forwarding through the TC.
Thank you! I have Lion on my Mac and I was experiencing issues with my mac locking up if I left it sit for a long time and during a backup. I completely took it back to factory settings and setup my network again. Ever since...the backups are working great but my wireless seems to be another issue. I can't download any apps from the app store on either my iMac, iPhone, iPad or Apple TV. Constantly gives me a nework error has occurred. I'm not sure if it is my wireless (which I am thinking it is since this is when it all began and seems to only occur when I am at home on my wireless) or if something is going on with my iTunes account.
Explain your network a bit further.. do you have a modem router in router mode or bridge mode?
Is the public ip being passed to the TC?
Consider rearranging the network, if you already have a router to put the TC in bridge mode.. I am guessing your Mac with Lion is simply backing up to the local device.. and therefore not having issues.. but anything attempting to connect to the internet is having trouble.. but I have no idea about issues with itunes account.. sorry .. outside of my purview.
But test the wireless by moving some files between your Mac and the iPad say. If it all works fine in local network then the wireless itself is fine.. it is network routing that is the issue.
Thank you! I'll give that a try! 🙂
Hi,
Did you manage to resolve this? I am experiencing a similar issue with my TC in that it seems to be preventing me from accessing anything that is secure/encrypted/requiring authentication, so I cannot download apps in iTunes, I cannot access https websites, I cannot send emails from the mailbox that syncs with my office Exchange server (although I can receive them), I cannot backup my iOS devices to iCloud, etc, etc.
Regular websites are absolutely fine and the problem is unique to my home network because when I take my devices to work and use them on the work Wi-Fi network everything is OK.
The issue is not Wi-Fi either, as switching off Wi-Fi on the Mac and plugging it in to the TC makes no difference.
This seems to be a firewall/port issue, but the TC is brand new and I have not touched any settings beyond those required by the ISP.
Thanks.
Gareth
Have you plugged the TC into an existing modem router.. if so you have double NAT which will give you issues.
Tell us what modem you have and does the TC get the public ip on the WAN interface.. if not bridge the TC and everything will go back to how it was. And you should be fine.
Hi,
Hopefully you've seen from the thread I started elsewhere that this matter is now (inexplicably!) resolved, but thank you for taking the time to reply.
Regards,
Gareth
