I have 2000 contacts in Address Book and have no idea where each contact is stored/saved to:
in my exhange serve???
Locally on my Mac???
in my 2nd exchange server???
MobileMe???
How the heck can you tell where each contact is stored/saved. This is very important to know.

In contacts, Select a contact that you want to see, then press the Option key. Groups that include the contact are highlighted in light blue in the sidebar. Is a very hidden way to do things since there is no other option in the menu. With regards to where is saved in the computer, I believe is hidden. I did not find it.

It is sort of hidden as the user Library folder is normally hidden. The contacts are stored in ~/Library/Application Support/AddressBook.
In Lion these are stored in ~/Library ("Your User Name"/Library). This file is hidden by default.

That is not what I am looking for.
If you have three John Smiths in your address book, how can you tell if one is saved to Mobile Me, one locally on your Mac, one on your Exchange.
Appears there is NO way to tell where my contacts originate from (locally, MM, exchange etc.)
To my knowledge there is no way to look at a contact and see in which database it is located.
However you can do the reverse by clicking on the red bookmark at the top of the Address Book window (or choose Groups from the View menu). Your sources will appear at left and you can view only the contacts from each source.
I don't know if this works with Mobile Me or Exchange (LDAP) groups, but if you select a contact and hold down the option key, the groups it is part of will highlight.
All your address book data is stored at home/library/applicationsupport/addressbook. You can go there by holding down the option key while you click on the go menu at the top--this will reveal the hidden home library. Offhand I don't know why all three "John Smiths" would not be saved to all locations.

I have two "Bill Smiths" in my address book. I need to know where they are stored/come from.
....is the contact from/stored locally on my Mac?
....is the contact from/stored my Exchange Server?
....is the contact from/stored on my Mobile Me Account?
How do you tell where each of the two Bill Smith is from?
I cannot find a way to figure this out

I'm not so sure about that. From the Help:
You can quickly see all the groups and Smart Groups that one contact or several contacts belong to.
I don't have any Exchange or LDAP contacts, so I don't know for sure if this will work for those. However, once you select a contact and identify the Group that it belongs to, that will you tell whether it is on your Mac, on the Exchange server, Mobile Me, or wherever.

Almost there. I do see the different groups of contacts

...global address list
When I select a contact, I have no clue where that contact is stored.
I now have 2-3 copies of each of my contacts and have no clue how find where "each" of those contacts are stored/saved.
I know I can click on to "On my Mac" and see all the contacts stored in "On my Mac".
My question is..
If I click onto "John Smith" how do I know where that contact is stored/saved

This should NOT be that difficult. I would like to be able to click on to each contact and know where it is saved/stored.
I know that I can look at my "groups" and see where each group is stored, but so far I find it impossible to find out where each "contact" is saved/stored.

As you haven't stated yet that you have even attempted what I suggested, I'll give it one more shot with specific instructions.
1) Open Address Book
2) From the View Menu, select "Groups"
3) Select the All Contacts group
4) Find a contact in the list on the right for which you would like to know the group (ie "location")
5) Select that contact in the contacts list.
6) Hold down the Option (alt) key and watch the group list on the left pane.
7) Identify the group(s) name(s) that turn blue
8) Interpret the highlighting
a) If a group in "On My Mac" is highlighted, then the contact is on your Mac, in your user/Library/Application Support/AddressBook/metadata folder
b) If a group in your "Mobile Me" section is highlighted, then it is on you Mobile Me contacts (ie, in the cloud).
c) If an Exchange Server folder is highlighted, then it is on your Exchange server contact list.
d) If it is in another list not mentioned, then it is in the storage location defined for that contact server.
Please note that since I do not have Mobile Me or an Exchange (or any other type of contact account), I don't know how that is labeled int he Groups list. Also, since I don't have those, I don't know if holding down the option key highlights those groups, but from the Help file, I would assume it does.

As far as I can tell, the only difficult part about it is getting you to understand.
Show the groups, select a contact, press option key, identify the groups (ie locations) of the contact. Not difficult at all.
