Can iWeb be saved in the Time Machine Backup?

Opened iWeb yesterday - all sites clean gone! Went to Time Machine to get backups - no Domains! What gives with iWeb and my Time Machine?

Been there, done that. Took it to the Apple Genius Bar and even they can't figure it out. Must be something more going on. Why isn't the Domain being save on the Time Machine? It should be save there, should't it? Why did everything disappear from iWeb? Is it time to get a new blog/web application that doesn't act so capriciously?

Was there a domain file in your Users/Home/Library/Application Support/iWeb folder? If there was did you check it's file size to see if it could contain your websites but was just not working as it should?

If the domain file appears to contain your sites try the following:

  1. delete the iWeb preference files, com.apple.iWeb.plist and com.apple.iWeb.plist.lockfile, that resides in your Home(User uploaded file) /Library/Preferences folder.
  2. go to your Home(User uploaded file)/Library/Caches/com.apple.iWeb folder and delete its contents.

  3. User uploaded file

  4. launch iWeb and try again.

If that doesn't help continue with:

  1. move the domain file from your Home/Library/Application Support/iWeb folder to the Desktop.
  2. launch iWeb, create a new test site, save the new domain file and close iWeb.
  3. go to the your Home/Library/Application Support/iWeb folder and delete the new domain file.
  4. move your original domain file from the Desktop to the iWeb folder.
  5. launch iWeb and try again.

Well, that was worth a try, but. . . in the first suggestion -- with an old March domain -- the two "com.apple" files didn't exist (searched for them with Find File, too), though the cache file did and I deleated its contents. Didn't work. I followed (twice) the directions in the second suggestion with iWeb only opening the old domain again. New Domains sure seem to be created though every time I open iWeb. Do you have any ideas why the Time Machine didn't work?
