New articles regarding TB connection limitations
Apple has released a few Knowledge Base articles regarding the connectivity options and limitations of the 27" ThunderBolt Display. These answer some of the questions posted in this forum. I highly recommend everyone read these before posting questions and/or purchasing one of these new displays.
Apple Thunderbolt Display (27-inch): Connection options for Thunderbolt Macs
Displays: Mini DisplayPort display must be last in a Thunderbolt chain - This is in regards to connecting a MDP display to a data device. It will not work when connected to a TB display! That only works with another TB display.
For best performance while using Thunderbolt storage devices, connect the Thunderbolt display to the computer's Thunderbolt port first (currently a 404 error page)
And here are a couple of articles from outside companies that have tested the display in various configurations and found other limitations.
MacFixIt : Apple outlines some Thunderbolt limitations
MacWorld: First Look: Apple Thunderbolt Display
The MacWorld article shows that they got a Cinema Display to work on the chain but only by connecting it to the back of the Promise RAID since it has a more advanced (expensive) ThunderBolt controller. Very interesting and unfortunate for those currently with CDs and want a 2nd screen.
Hope this helps.
