Thunderbolt Display-OTHER
Does anyone know of a good solution to use external speakers with the Thunderbolt display?
Use case is - Macbook Air hooked to Thunderbolt display. I know it'll just use the Thunderbolt display's speakers, and I know I could use external speakers by plugging them into my headphone jack on my Macbook Air. What I want though is the ability to plug external speakers into my Thunderbolt display. The whole point of having to only plug in one cable to my macbook air and all...
Anybody know of a good way to accomplish this? External USB sound card or something maybe?
You can use USB speakers attached to the back of the Thunderbolt display.
Yeah, I know USB speakers would probably work. My only beef with that is that I already own really nice speakers / subwoofer, that use the standard 3.5mm jack.
I'm wondering if something like a USB to 3.5mm adapter would work. Something like this: http://www.buy.com/retail/product.asp?sku=213693215
Anyone have any experience with something like this?
The issue is really that the port should have been included, sure you can run it from the laptop, but the point of a docking station is to remove all cables from the machine.
Thanks for the responses.
My thunderbolt displays have audio in them. Perhaps this was a design change, but the current ones for sale definitely have them and they sound great. Note: great for screen speakers, no hate from the audiophiles please. 🙂
I can confirm that the Voyetra Turtle Beach Turtle Beach Audio Advantage Micro II - USB sound card from MacMall.com works flawlessly on the Thunderbild Display. It converts your usb port to a 3.5mm jack out and sounds awesome! Once plugged in, change your audio setting in the preferences to send audio out through this usb card and wal-la!
