WHY DOES ITUNES TELL ME TO CHECK MY NETWORK ADAPTORS?

every Time I try and hook up my phone I get told Itunes timed out please check your network adaptor..... I have no clue what this means. EVERYTHING else except skype works well on my computer and I can surf no issues... Skype acts up and boots me off as well.. but these are the only two programs that tell me that there is an issue. Nothing else does HEEEEEEEEEEEELP PLS.... I have a Ipad to hook up and can't...... 😟
