Why do "Export to QT" and "Batch Export" produce different files?

Question

Why do "Export to QT" and "Batch Export" produce different files?

When I "Export to QT" an individual sequence, the file in Finder has .mov on the end. When I batch export multiple sequences, there is no extension in the name. Why?

MacBook Pro, Mac OS X (10.6.8)

Because you have to tell it what extension you want under the batch export settings.
