Suitable Desk for 27" iMac?

Hello,

Can anyone suggest suitable desk (home use) for 27" iMac? I'm looking for a desk to put iMac, iPad and Time Capsule. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

MacBook Pro 15, Mac OS X (10.7), 2G i7 2.30GHz 8GB RAM 256GB SSD

I know it would be difficult to answer, since it depends upon my needs.

The professional computer desk's are very expensive, especially the real good ones; e.g with variable height.

This desks are also designed to fit in modern highend office surroundings, but not into homes. They will also appear like a foreign object in the room like Dirk Nowitzki between the 7 dwarfs.

Best suggestion I can give you is to meter out the space you have (or need) for the desk, go to a good cabinet maker, explain your needs and let them build one to your comfort.

It's very less expensive than one from a office furniture dealer and will fit well in your room as well as to your needs.

As I'm not in your country (think so) and therefore have no knowledge about the market I cant recommend a specific model.

But, you should look that the height of the desk is less than a normal home desk due to convenience and a good angle of view.

To find the best matching height, sit down straight up on the chair you want to use with the new desk. Than meter the distance between floor and your elbow knob with relaxed hanging arms.

Subtract 1 to 3 inches from the finding. That will be the optimal desk height for relaxed and comfortable working with your new iMac.

How much space for a desk do you have? We've converted a small bedroom into an office. We have a 27" iMac. We have an old solid pine desk and we use a "Task Chair" with it. We have an external HD in a basket on the desk top and our router is on a separte book case next to the desk. I bought a LaCie "Rugged" drive because I didn't think I'd have enough room on the desk for a regular style and this fits in a samll basket.

The 27" does take up room and it is heavy so you'll need something substantial.

When I was in college some of my friends and I rented a house and furnished it with US Cast-off & Thrift Store Modern. After a week of cruising the neighborhood and thrift shops I still didn't have a desk. In the basement of the house I found a flat wooden door leaning against the wall. It was filthy but I took it upstairs and with a borrowed sander took both sides down to bare wood. Two metal 2 drawer steel cabinets and a few bricks made the base. I filed the hole for the door knob with a cup for pencils and pens.

Many years later that door is still my desk. I've since replaced the steel cabinets & bricks with more stylish wooden shelves from Ikea but it is a fantastic desk with lots of room to spread out.

Hi,

I'm planning to get this (http://www.amazon.com/Z-Line-Designs-ZL810-01DU-Claremont-Desk/dp/B002FYGP5I/ref =sr_1_2?s=furniture&ie=UTF8&qid=1316563206&sr=1-2) Is this model handles iMac?

According to my own experience 24 inches for depth is on the edge. 30 inches (as the professional desk's have) may be better as you need space for the forearms, mouse handling or the trackpad. Height adjustable may also be a benefit.

A tray for the keyboard looks nice and tidy but most likely you will have placed the keyboard on the desk for convenience.

If the keyboard is placed in the tray and you're writing the forearms are always in mid air and the open drawer is between your belly and your work.

Not a suggestion but an example for a good computer desk is this one --> https://www.schooloutfitters.com/catalog/product_info/pfam_id/PFAM9172/products_ id/PRO22878?sc_cid=nextag.com_SPT-38902ADJ
