I am unable to update to FCPX 10.0.1

I have a clone with FCP X on it. Removed the disk from my Mac Pro. Restarted logged out and in at Apple Store and I could upgrade all FCP X applications. I also removed extra Ethernet conection.

Trash the app from the applications folder. Go back to App Store > Purchased Items > and re-install. Works.

Tip of the hat to Tom for his suggestion of inserting 10.0 in the trash. Doing so allowed me to download 10.0.1.

This is new: rather than saying it wasn't purchased from the AppStore, AppStore now gives me the message "Final Cut is already installed on this computer. Choose Software Update from the Apple menu to check for available updates" when I try to install FCP10. Looks like they're working to resolve at least the error message.

Not sure that is new - I had exactly the same message when clicking on "install" from the Purchased menu.

Tom's suggestion works though. I'm now on 10.0.1.

.... And Software Update (from Apple Menu, NOT from the AppStore) does not show that any software needs updating.

Interesting. Maybe the AppStore was overwhelmed, simply giving the wrong error message, and Apple decided to off-load some AppStore traffic to the OS Software Update servers.'

Or is this standard behavior for the AppStore? (The Software Update message)

Do you mean trash the previous update in applications or trash the actual FCP X original application install in the trash?

Note that simply placing FCP 10.0 in the trash enables downloading ("install" not "update") of FCP 10.0.1 from the AppStore.

I didn't want to delete the app (in case re-downloading continued to fail) but now I'm downloading 10.0.1 with 10.0 in my un-emptied trash, which makes me feel a little less anxious.

Rest assured, deleting the orignal app is safe. When you got to Purchased Items and re-nstall, it downloads 10.0.1

Heh-heh, I'm sure, eventually. But the AppStore bugginess is definitely NOT reassuring.

I'm going to wait until I see 10.0.1 actually running before I empty my trash and delete 10.0. 🙂 Just knowing it's there and can be easily recovered makes it feel safer, what with no disks to reinstall from. Keeping it un-deleted in the trash means no chance that download/network/errors will leave me even temporarily FCP-less.

Motion showed up as an update and downloaded without problems.

The FCP X update did not show up.

Thanks to this thread I was able to get it.

FCP X 10.0.1 was only downloadable after throwing the 10.0. FCP X app into the trash and emptying the trash. The new version is downloading as I type.

This was not the smooth App Store experience I'm expecting from Apple.

Messages like this app was not purchased in the App Store are frustrating at least. Where else could I have bought FCP X????

This is helpful. I will try removing Final Cut Pro and re-downloading from the App Store.

Yep make sure you actually empty the trash and not just place it there.
