I am unable to update to FCPX 10.0.1

Update is there and I just can't get it.

If I go to the Final cut page I get the message:

"Final Cut Pro 10.0 is already installed and was not purchased from the Mac App Store.

Do you want to buy Final Cut Pro 10.0.1?"

What??? Of course I purchased and installed it from the Mac app store!!!

If I go to the "Purchased" page, instead of update I get an "Install" button. When I click it, this time I get:

"Final Cut is already installed on this computer. Choose Software Update from the Apple menu to check for available updates."

But I go to the software update from the apple menu and there is nothing there?

What's going on???

Final Cut Pro X, Mac OS X (10.7.1)

I have been clicking on the "Software Update" icon every so often over the day, on my Mac Pro and Air, only to be told "No Updates". I went to the AppStore and wasn't told of any updates either (or so I thought). I searched the 'net, found this thread and thought "Goody, at least I am not alone" and was about to delete FCPX and Motion so that I could upgrade...

Then I noticed a post about the blue button in the AppStore, I had a look - well, it wasn't blue, but it did have a number under it, 3. I clicked it, it went blue and voila, there are updates to 3 of my products including FCPX and Motion.

I thought the Software Update function under the Apple logo did the same thing? Obviously not. Now, I know you're not all stupid, but maybe this situation may apply to you too. So, check it out before you delete the Apps!

I have to say I think it's absolutely crazy that we have to trash a program purchased from Apple in order to install an upgrade. There's obviously a problem. I went to my neighborhood Apple store today and two of the guys who work there can't install the upgrade either. They suspect Apple is 'rolling them out," whatever that means.

I jjst did that, trashed 10.0, in order to be able to download 10.0.1, the software was installed in the application folder, I had to move it to the FCPX folder I had created in order to avoid conflit with FCP studio that i also have installed.

FCPX 10.0.1, motion and compressor works perfectly well with no loss of any data or old projects.

I wonder whether the problem of the appstore not allowing some of us to download FCPX upgrade is due to FCP studio being installed in the same system!

I agree, but to say the truth I found no problem installing both aps under the same partition.

I got both FCP studio 7 and FCP X with Motion 5 and compressor 4 working perfectly well.

I don't see why apple can't solve any possible conflict that may exist between the 2 versions.

so far so good, I got the best of 2 worlds :-)

Sorry - I misunderstood you. I didn't realise you know more than Apple about FCP X.

Where have I mentioned that I know more than Apple Andy?

All I'm saying is that Apple advised that in case one can't partition, FCPX app + new motion and compressor must be put inside a seperate folder.

I can't partition, so I give it a try first on my portable, just to see what happens. all went well, I have massive projects, both FCP-7 and X and I'm having no conflicts working on them one at a time.

If you wish to look at my latest jobs for MONOCLE, here you can see my first official project edited entirely on FCPX. not a single crash during the whole process...

enjoy

PS: maybe I'm lucky, mybe I'm the only one with no problems having both versions on the same partition. what I'm sure about however is that you really don't have to be that agressive.

Thanks everyone. I have been trying for two days to get this. Motion showed up as an update, but not Final Cut Pro, and nothing in sofware update, which was what the app store suggests. I am downloading it as I write this. I do have both versions installed and they both run fine in the same partition. I am also using TechTracker to watch for updates, and it has the same problem with FCPX, in that it tells me it is not installed. Maybe there is a problem when you have both on your system. Anyway, thanks for the "Trash Fix".

I'm glad I didn't know that Apple "requires" uninstalling FCP7 in order to use FCP10. (Strange that the installer didn't mention it.) I've been enjoying learning FCP10 while using FCP7 for "real" work, but I'm afraid I'm not going to set up a new OS on a new drive or partition just to betatest.

And until FCP10 is professional-ready, I'm not going to uninstall FCP7. I'll be specific: a professional FCP upgrade will be 1. stable and short on bugs, 2. feature-rich, on-par with previous versions or at least close, and 3. able to open or at very least import previous version projects. And no, the half-assed XML export/convert-with-third-party-utility/import workaround doesn't count—if Apple wants me to use CatDV instead of building their own conversion import module, then they should buy it and roll it into the app.

Luckily, other than this AppStore bug, I've had no problems with both versions installed and am enjoying playing with the two-thirds-finished FCP10.

I am unable to update to FCPX 10.0.1
