can't burn dvd-r. CD's and DVD+R burns fine.
Recently I found I was unable to burn a DVD using a DVD-R disk. DVD+R and CD's burn fine. This is new as I've used many DVD-R's in the past. Any idea's?

Common problem. Try a different -r media.
Have tried different -R media including DVD-RW. Getting a "the disk could not be burned because the devise failed to calibrate the laser power level for this media" message. This is also new.
" ... because the device failed to calibrate the laser power level for this media"
That message happens when you are using the wrong speed-range media for your burner, such as 8x media in a 2.4x-capable burner.
You can always burn to faster-capable media on a slower speed burner. It's just a waste of money to buy such media if your burner can't utililize the dvd's to to their max write speed.
The OP should however check the write speed he has set in his burner program.

I don't think that is strictly true, When you get into more obscure stuff like DVD-R, there are classes of media that are using different technologies and you can not jump classes.
You CAN burn 2.4x media at 2x or 1.5x or 1x.
But if your burner is a 2.4x burner, inserting 8x media gets you that "cannot calibrate laser" message. The 8x media just do not work in the older burners.
