Cannot send mail after upgrading to Lion

Can anyone help.

I upgraded to OS X Lion, and since then I cannot send mail from any of my accounts.

Nothing wrong with them. I can access, receive and send with othe Mail programs, as well as from my iPhone and iPad.

I have deleted, and reconfigured my accounts, and no luck.

Mac OS X (10.0.x)

The problem must be in Mail an OS X Lion.

You can test this by creating a User Account in ->System Prefereces->Users & Groups, then log into the new account, and see if you can send an email. If you can, then log into your main account (you can also delete the account you created), and then delete Library/Preferences/com.apple.mail.plist (you'll then need to set-up your accounts again)

I have a problem similar to Ridemo. I spent an hour on the phone with Apple Care yesterday. We did all the things you suggest above and thought we had solved the problem, but it didn't last.

When I press send I watch the fan for a couple of minutes before seeing the error message that invites me to select another server or try later. The outgoing mail server that shows up as being unusable is MobileMe (MobileMe). When I select smtp.me.com, I can send. Sometimes I can even send a couple of messages before the problem returns.

I'm using Lion and Mail 5.0 (1244.2/1244.3) on my iMac (mid-2010) and Verizon FIOS. Never had this problem with Snow Leopard or earlier. Don't have it with my MacPro running Snow Leopard on the home wireless network. Don't have it when using MobileMe mail on the Web, but that's a slow alternative.

Tried that, no luck.

Actually, I have tried almost all solutions posted in this and other discussions.

I have deleted my accounts, added them again: as POP, as IMAP, as IMAP configured as POP; SSL activated, not activated. Password, no password.

No luck whatsoever.

It has been very frustrating.

It's been a week since I upgraded and cannot use MAIL to send (only receive).

It appears Apple acknowledges the problem, but has no solution yet.

I have a similar problem sending mail Using Mail on Lion with GMAIL I

  • No problem receiving.
  • Doctor shows green dots.
  • Upon sending mail message window closes and then reopens and stays stuck.
  • Message not in sent items.
  • Message not received by recipient.
  • I'm unable to close the message window..

Incoming account is GMAIL IMAP SSL

Outgoing account is GMAIL SMTP SSL

Used auto configure capability in MAIL

Tried custom instructions on GMAIL

Mail on iPad, Ipod and windows PC working OK.

Any help welcome.

I may have a solution for you. When I ran into the same problem after updating to Lion, I was told to go to Mail-Preferences-Accounts-SMTP(Outgoing Mail Server-then Click on the little up/down arrow to the right of the listed Server-in the drop down list Click on "Edit SMTP Server List..."-Advanced-Select the SSL option-select "Use Custom Port"-Type in port "587". This forcing of Port 587 is what should fix your problem.

Hope this Helps:)

Thanks for the suggestion, but that didn't work for me. (My Connection Doctor also shows green.) I installed Lion a few months ago, and the Mail sending problem appeared gradually. That is, Mail became increasingly reluctant to send, and the time spent watching the fan spin until I got the error message grew longer and longer. Now I can't send anything, anytime, any way, except through Web-based MobileMe mail.

Have you tried:

Create a User Account in ->System Prefereces->Users & Groups, then log into the new account, and see if you can send an email. If you can, then log into your main account (you can also delete the account you created), and then delete Library/Preferences/com.apple.mail.plist (you'll then need to set-up your accounts again)

I am having the exact same problem as Steve Kennedy a few posts back.

I am getting REAL tired of the Lion quirks. <y desktop rearranges itself when it feels like it. Nothing consistent or repeatable. The folders just all appear on the right side and disregard how I have them organized on the desktop. I have set all of the recommended settings to no avail. A mind of it's own.

Help us Apple. Mail is almost unusable.

I agree.

Only workaround i have found is changing the TLS ceritifcate back and forwards a few times (under accounts). I am occaissionally able to send 5 or 10 emails, then it all failsl I suspect the bug has something to do with digital signatures , but not sure.

Connection doctor always gives me green lights on everything, but from mulitple locations across the planet, sending mail on OSX Lion does not work.I have tried the ports.
