iTalk-deleted recording but not freeing up space

I have run low on disk space on my iPhone 8Gig, so I synced a bunch of iTalk recordings. I was surprised to see that my general settings doesn't show any additional space. Is there something I need to do to have this space released by iTalk? My on/off switch is broken, or I would just reset. And BTW, anyway to do that via software? Thanks Jan
