Fonts scrambled/overlapping with pictures.Generally unreadable after 10.4.4

Since the new update my safari has had serious issues with text extending far beyond where it should wrap to the next line. Other text is scrambled/jumbled to the point of making it unreadable. Also I have text overlapping with images.

The severity of the problem varies from web page to web page but strangely is at its worst at Apple.com. I'd love to post screen shots if anyone can describe how.

I saw a post on this several days ago and hoped I'd have a new update from Apple by now, but my updater says I'm up to date! Does anyone have a fix/workaround for this or know what can be done? Thanks!

I've started seeing the same problem recently. Generally, some sections of text seem to be rendered in the wrong locations. The garbled text appearance is created where one section of text overlaps another.

I'm using Safari version 2.0.3 (417.8). Neither reseting Safari nor reseting the computer helped. There have been no other system problems that I've noticed.

The same pages appear normal in other browsers on this system. Also, a nearly indentical system I use, which runs Mac OS X 10.3.9 and Safari version 1.3.2 (v312.5), is displaying normally.

This is a followup to let you know that Font Finagler solved the problem . Apparently, a font cache was messed up somewhere.

One more note: While the problem still existed, I tried using Safari on another account. There were no problems there. That narrowed things down a bit, so I deleted Safari's preferences file, disabled duplicate fonts using Font Book, and removed all user fonts that I had installed in the last few months. None of these actions helped. Since Font Finagler fixed the problem, and no other program or account was showing the same symptoms, I've come to the conclusion that Safari must keep its own private font cache for each account.

So, I'm not finding a solution anywhere. I've tried many things, and the only thing that worked for me was to go into terminal (I can't remember what the script was) and enabled the 'Debug' menu. In here is 'Use ATSU for all text', and when checked, fixes the problem........but when I quit it doesn't stay checked. I always quit programs, as opposed to closing windows, and it bugs me that I should have to check it every time.

1. It's not a font problem.
2. It's only Safari, including Apple's homepage, so not webpage prob.
3. I resolved duplicates in Font Book.
4. I don't want to use anything but Safari.
5. Please Apple gurus, help us. There are more than 34 pages (30 per page) of hits when I searched 'text overlap"
