Macbook Recognizes Infocus X2 projector but the projector doesn't project picture

I have an Infocus X2 projector (I know it is older) and I have a 2006 13' macbook. I have tied everything and looked everywhere. I am coming out of the macbook with the mini-DVI out to dvdi then I have a dvi to vga and then it goes vga to M1 plug into the projector. If I unplug the mini dvi and plug the M1/VGA and The VGA to DVI adaptor into my power mac I get a picture to come out of the projector and If i plug the Mini DVI to dvi plug into my apple display I get a picture so all the plugs and connecters work but when I put all 3 together Out of my macbook I don't get a picture the projector just searches. Can anyone help me?
