10.4 as a second system

I foolishly upgraded my G5 from 10.4.11 to 10.5 (for reasons that didn't pan out). Nonetheless, I am stuck with 10.5 on my main HD. I have software that will only work with 10.4 or less. I have a second HD. Can I (re)install 10.4 on my 2nd HD (as a second system) and then choose between the two drives for start up. And here is the real question. If I do install 10.4, will it automatically find all my old applications, settings, etc. and load them into 10.4?

As long as the external drive is formatted Mac OS Extended (Journaled), you should be able to install 10.4 on the external. You may need a Retail version of Tiger. Not sure if you can install Tiger on an exteral HD using original Tiger disks that came with your machine.

Unless you have a backup of your other Apps, settings and files, all you'll have is a new 10.4 System.

And yes, you can boot back and forth from one system to the other.
