Laura,

Presuming you are using Snow Leopard:

1. Insert the Snow Leopard Installation disk into the computer.

2. The disk will appear on the desktop.

3. Double click on the "Optional Installs" folder.

4. Double click on the "Optional Installs.mpkg."

5. Click on (Continue) in Introduction.

6. Click on (Continue) in Software License Agreement.

7. Click on (Agree) to agree to the terms of the software license agreement.

8. Click on the disclosure arrow ▶ next to Applications.

9. Select (✓) iCal.

10. Click (Continue).

11. After iCal has been reinstalled, download and install the Mac OS X 10.6.8 Update Combo v1.1 to bring iCal up to the most recent version.

Easiest method is if you have (wisely) been using Time Machine.

1. If so, open your Applications folder in Finder - where iCal belongs. (cmd-shift-A is a handy shortcut for that)

2. Enter Time Machine. (If you set your system up so that the Time Machine icon appears in the menu bar to the left of the clock, just right-click and choose Enter Time Machine. Otherwise, launch the Time Machine app.)

3. Go backwards in time one step at a time until you see iCal in the Time Machine Application window.

4. Select iCal and click the Restore button.

All should be back to normal. If somehow you also deleted your actual iCal data, that can be restored via Time Machine too. Post if you need to know how to do that.
