need external antenna for remote service area...any plug in units available?

more detail -- I am planning to put in a booster, but need to aim the directional antenna. Can one plug in a directional into the iPhone to use as signal strength meter?
There is no way to "plug in" an external antenna for any purpose - no input connection is available. iPhones use several antennas for different frequency bands and purposes.

only need the 800 & 1900 Mhz bands since that is what Verizon uses for voice
