Fan noise on Thunderbolt display

I just unboxed my TD tonight and set it up. I have it connected to newest MBA i7, 256 GB

I also have a gigabit ethernet cable & an 800 firewire cable attached. The latter going to an external g-tech drive for Time Machine.

After the unit was on for about a half hour or so, I started hearing this rushing fan noise coming from the lower left side on the bottom where the metal is perforated (facing the front of the display). In addition to the noise, it is pumping out quite a bit of heat.

I am not doing anything processor (or graphics) intensive. A little email, web serving, etc. just kind of exploring what looks good in what size.

This is my first display only purchase. I also have 2009 24" iMac that I have never heard any noise from.

My question to the community is this: Is this normal? I didn't even realize there was a fan in this display. I could find no reference to this issue in the manual that ships with the unit.

Thanks, everyone.

I didn't even notice that the TB display has a built in fan, but I can feel the airflow and after half an our of usage the display itself and the air coming out don't feel warm. I have keyboard and gigabit ethernet attached to it. The first time I used the display it became quite warm, though I din't notice the fan (and I'm very sensitive to fan noise). In the meantime I applied the Thunderbolt Display Firmware Update. Maybe that caused some improvement.

Has fan noise continued?

Hi, everyone.

Here's an update to my original post about fan noise.

Thursday night after I posted my question, I checked software update and found the 1.0 firmware update for the TB. I applied the update, but didn't have a chance to use the display again until last night (Friday).

After several hours of use, I have not heard the air rush that I did the night I first set it up.

There is still a fair amount of heat generated while in use and it seems to seep out those bottoms perforations on the lower left side of the display.

I would say at this point, problem solved.

Thanks to Mario_MM for his reply and also Mike95 for reminding me that I needed to update my post.

I have this fan noise issue from time ago, and I could not install the thunderbolt display firmware update 1.1 bescause there´s a message telling I don´t need this update on my Mountain Lion OS. I´ve checked through the utilities folder and can´t find any program which helps me. Is there any solution to this issue in my OS??
