VPN can connect only once from VPN Status menu then only timeouts

I've run into a problem where I setup a pptp VPN to work and it connects fine the first time after a reboot from the vpn menu. The next time around I get connecting then a timeout. The server sees a request but no authentication information is passed. If I go into network preferences and select the vpn connection and click on connect here it works as expected. I'm pretty sure this is a bug but I'm not sure how to report it.
