ILife 11' Apps Wont Work

Hello everyone

I recently got my macbook 13 inch i5 running OS X Snow leopard 10.6.7 during the summer and I havent used Ilife before. A few days ago I decided to try some ilife apps out and when i opened each one they all gave me errors. When i open idvd it opens then closes within 2 seconds then gives me this error report saying i need to send it to apple. When I open imovie it bounces 3 times on the taskbar and has a little blue ball underneath indicating that it is running but nothing comes up. When I open garage band it goes to initializing garageband then this comes up "GarageBand unexpectedly quit while trying to use the Audio Unit ā€œAUMultibandCompressorā€ by ā€œAppleā€.This plug-in may require an update." Then it tells me to send an error report yet again.

I have searched for a few days now and could not find a solution.

Things I have tried:

Deleting Prefences File

Deleting Those faulty apps then reinstall

Reinstall ilife

Start new admin account

repair disk permissions

I have over 150gb memory so not memory issues

I restarted and after most things

I would give anyone who can help me fix this issue a big hug lol

But please help me I really need these apps for my schoolwork >.<

This is for garageband

GarageBand unexpectedly quit while trying to use the Audio Unit ā€œAUMatrixReverbā€ by ā€œAppleā€.

This plug-in may require an update.

imovie dosent show anything it just opens and nothing happens.

Sep 23, 2011 7:25 PM in response to Linc Davis

I just reinstalled ilife 11' and the problem is still there except I get different error messages.

imovie is the same starts up 3 bounces blue sphere under icon and nothing happens.

Garageband sometimes takes ages to initialize and then gives me this error message:

GarageBand unexpectedly quit while trying to use the Audio Unit ā€œAUNetReceiveā€ by ā€œAppleā€.

This plug-in may require an update.

Which is different to the other error message. But it sometimes works when I open it up šŸ™‚

This is what I get when I open iDVD it might be the same but could have bits of changes to it:

That was sort of a suscess but not really. garageband works just fine now without any errors, just opens smoothly.

imovie is still not working 3 bounces blue sphere nothing opens

iDVD opens šŸ˜€ but then I create a new project and it opens up plays a bit of music then shuts down šŸ˜Ÿ

What i did was used appzapper to delete imovie and idvd and all related files then reinstalled them with my ilife cd

IDVD dosent work becase it just shuts down but at least no error reports šŸ˜€

imovie dosent seem to be improving

You wrote that you used "appzapper" to uninstall some parts of iLife. I don't know what that is, but it didn't do the job. iLife installs files in the System folder, and that's where you problem lies. I think you should do a clean reinstallation of the OS and iLife. That means, first, that you back up all data at least twice and preferably three times. Then you boot from your installation disc, erase the startup volume, and install the OS. After installing, you restore your user data but not your software in the Setup Assistant. Then you install iLife from the original media. Then you run Software Update. Finally, you restore your third-party software from backup.

Somehow your iLife installation is being corrupted. I can find only one other report of the same problem, and it was solved by reinstalling iLife:

I don't know why it isn't working for you. Maybe you have a defective disc. I suggest you make an appointment at the "Genius Bar" of an Apple Store for hands-on assistance. It's a free service.
