Hello @ all :-)

i have a big Problem with my Powerbook (G4, 1.5, 12", 512MB Ram, OSX10.4.11).

Who can me say why crashs my Powerbook??!!!!!

I think the Ram Module could be defect or is it a driver problem. :-/

PR-Ram reset, NV-Ram, reset PMU doesn't helped...

The Kernel panic starts when i shut down my mac or press the start button by using USB Prober(by diconnected USB Hubs!!!!!).

I can't repair the rights with the DVD. The drive is defect. :-(

And i Don't have extern Drive or second Mac....****....

I need a Hardware test as freeware. I don't know which is the best.

Please help me!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

There is no hardware test as freeware for your Powerbook. A download alternative that you can buy is TechTool Pro from http://www.micromat.com/ .

Kernel panics are usually, but not always, caused by hardware, with memory the leading cause. There is a free memory tester you can download from http://kelleycomputing.net/rember/ . Set it up to run all night to thoroughly test the memory.

When you bought AppleCare on a product, they supplied a CD with the TechTool Deluxe program. You used to be able to download it also after inputting the system serial number to verify AppleCare coverage (I haven't looked recently to see if you can still do that). Apple did this on my Powerbook, with AppleCare.

Understanding crash logs isn’t easy and it’s hard (sometimes impossible) to decipher the cause of the problem. Take a look at Apple’s Crash Reporter document at http://developer.apple.com/technotes/tn2004/tn2123.html Also look at Tutorial: An introduction to reading Mac OS X crash reports

Kernel panics are usually caused by a hardware problem – frequently RAM, a USB device or a Firewire device. When trying to troubleshoot problems, disconnect all external devices except your monitor, keyboard and mouse. Do you experience the same problems?

To eliminate RAM being the problem, Look at this link: Testing RAM @ http://guides.macrumors.com/Testing_RAM Then download & use Memtest & Ramber.

May be a solution on one of these links.

Do you have an Apple Hardware Test disc (the AHT is on the Install/Restore DVD that came with your Mac)? Running the Apple Hardware Test in Loop Mode is an excellent troubleshooting step for finding intermittent hardware problems. It is especially useful when troubleshooting intermittent kernel panics. If Loop Mode is supported by the version of the Apple Hardware Test you are using, you run the Extended Test in Loop Mode by pressing Control-L before starting the test. Looping On should appear in the right window. Then click the Extended Test button. The test will run continuously until a problem is found. If a problem is found, the test will cease to loop, indicating the problem it found. If the test fails, be sure to write down the exact message associated with the failure. In some cases, RAM problems did not show up until nearly 40 loops, so give it a good run. To use the Apple Hardware Test, insert the Install/restore disc that came with your PB. Depress the C key at startup. If you don't have the disc, you can download an older version of the AHT at http://www.info.apple.com/support/aht.html and burn it to a CD/DVD.

 Cheers, Tom 😉
