I want to make an icon with a transparent background. Icon Composer is supposed to be part of Apple Developer Tools which, I believe, was included in the installation discs of pre-Lion OSs, but with Lion not having an installation disc, I can't find it.
The Xcode Apple Developer Tools are now on the App Store
From Xcode, select the menu item Xcode > Open Developer Tool > Icon Composer

The latest version of Icon Composer that ships with Xcode already does support 1024x1024 icons.
I also just discovered that. Missed it the first time becasue it is no lonveg all in the main window like it once was. I wish it was still all in one window to facilitate comparisons.
Icon Composer is found in (Your Computer Name)--->(Your HD)---->Developer--->Aplications--->Utilties
Icon Composer is not anywhere on my computer, i have downloaded Xcode and checked in the app menu, nothing. iv'e checked in the location above but i dont have a developer folder? is it hidden?
Looks like you have to dowload the lastest Graphics Tools for Xcode as well. Icon Composer doesn't come standard with Xcode 4.4.1.

If you are using Lion then you will have to update to Xcode 4, then Icon Composer should be in the location I mentioned above. Also, if Icon Composer is on your machine you should be able to locate it (and any installed program) using Spotlight.
There is no Developer folder anymore if you get XCode from the app store. And my copy of Icon Composer disappeared along with it. The version of Icon composer I got from the link above (Version 2.4) has no apparent means of adding a 1024x1024 icon either. Big thumbs down for this, since without it my app fails validation for the Mac App Store.
