TV Shows menu disappeared from my aTV1 in the UK as well about a week ago!

Come on know that "the functionality added overnight" last week to "enable Apple TV users in Australia, Canada and the U.K. to purchase and stream episodes of television shows directly to Apple's set-top box without the need for a computer" is the culprit!

I'm passionate about all things Apple but the longer this goes on the more I get the feeling this is a conspiracy to get us die-hard aTV1 users to ditch them for aTV2's!

    Please tell me I'm wrong!!!

I can add my name to the list of affected users (UK) and to the list of people who've been given the complete runaround by Apple support. Seems Apple support staff are under instruction to frustrate ATV1 users. I've made the point that they are upsetting their best customers - those that puchase video content from iTunes.

Since none of us are getting any customer sevice at all here I'd suggest contacting media

I too will add my name to the list of affected users here in Canada. I've been so busy dealing with a different issue regarding tv shows and multimedia that I never checked to see until just today, so it may have been for the past few days. Both my Apple TV (Gen 1) and (Gen 2) are experiencing the same issue. (Gen 1) Shows the tab and "My Tv Shows" and "Shared TV Shows", but thats it. (Gen 2) doesn't even show the menu. Somethings up...and the silence from Apple is deafening on this matter.

Its happening with ATV2 as well.

Can any of you see their itunes library on your ATVs? Music, playlists etc

That's my main problem ... I don't get any of it!

  • Axlaiden Level 1 Level 1

I can see iTunes Library on ATV(Gen 1); however, on (Gen 2) i do not see my iTunes Library...I don't even have a "TV Shows" menu item.

For Canadian Apple TV Owners: It appears as though Apple has removed this feature on purpose. I am quite upset that there was no announcement. You will see from this link that TV Shows is no longer a feature..Making "Apple TV" no longer for "TV".

Well, the whole issue is Apple did a mistake a little while ago by sending an ATV OS update too early: that is why you were able to see the "TV Shows" on your ATV2 (It didn't have that choice in Canada before). And its now gone again.

Obviously with the iCloud, this choice will come back.. But the ones who have an ATV 1 with an internal HD, they can say goodbye to what they were able to do before, from now on (or soon to be), it is all streaming unless you buy your show with iTunes on your laptop/desktop and share on your home network (homesharing).

I now have setup my three macs and 2 ATVs with homesharing and one of my mac (a 2006 iMac with a 2TB drive) as my Media server.

The problem is that homesharing isn't connecting for me either. That went away too!

I think they have Siri doing tech support

Really, I would just be happy to purchase TV Shows again from the ATV(Gen 1)... ATV (Gen 2) never gave me the option to buy in the first place, only rent...and most people don't rent TV Shows anyways, not for a price like .99 per episode. Some do, Im sure I would come to realize, but taking the ability to purchase TV shows away from ATV(Gen 1) users is unconvenient and will decrease revenue for them. I will go to my MacBook to make purchases of the episodes I wish to watch...but not everyone will. The convenience of purchasing shows on the ATV (Gen 1) was a awesome... I really wish they would have had this issue for ATV (Gen 2) from the get-go. Im sure as ATV's popularity grows, this will occur again... But right now (in Canada at least) we are without this feature.

I can get shows from iTunes on my computer and stream them through Apple TV, just be nice to do it strait from Apple TV

After having trawled the net about this problem, and also having tried various suggestions in this forum, I get the feeling that this is a software problem that Apple is very much aware of, but unfortunately (but typical for Apple) they don't want to say so.

The full TV show menu is currently only available if your AppleTV is set for US. If it's set for any other country, "My TV shows" is the only available option. As the menu was okay a week ago in all countries where you can buy or rent TV shows, and as you in these countries still can by or rent TV shows via iTunes in your Mac or PC, it's obviously an error and not a question of a withdrawn service.

I suspect a news item on from 8 December is on the right track: either they did an update that didn't handle that menu correctly, or noticed a problem with it and pulled it.

As Apple as usual never tells us if there is a problem, we'll probably have to wait until it's fixed, and buy TV shows via iTunes in the meantime: one they're bought, they should appear in "My TV shows".

I am having the same issues on a gen2 AppleTV. First, I thought it may be an issue with my network but closed and restarted my network. Everything seems to function as far as Internet (youtube,mobileme..etc.) but when i tested the network under "Settings / General / Network / Test Network" it gives a warning that "Can't connect to Apple" this leads me to belive that somehow when the system update was installed there is something wrong with the path that the ATV uses to acess the itunes store. Just my theory, as i work in web dev this is equivelent to a 404 error for a link that nolonger exists or you typed the address wrong.

Hopefully they can work this out soon.

I am having the same problem. I am using AAustralian Apple Store on my Apple TV in Germany - i can buy movies, podcasts, music, but no TV Shows, only option under TV Shows is 'My TV Shows' which is stuff I already had there. I can downloan onto my computer and sync them across but that is not the point of having Apple TV - arggh!
