Mean&Stinky (hopefully that's not true in adverstising),

I want to start with the support page for your computer — you have a Dell, but the model number doesn't make any sense. If it's a Dell desktop machine, it usually gives the model number / name on front right around the power on button. And if it's a laptop, it will tell you on the sticker on the bottom — like my laptop is a Latitude C840. Then I can look up your support page so we can look for new drivers and firmware from Dell.

Mean&Stinky,

Let's start with the support page for your computer. Go there and click on the "Show All" link.

Download and install the driver update labeled "nVidia 64MB GeForce2 GTS".

There is new firmware for that Sony CDRW drive. The latest version of the firmware is 1.0s and you're running 1.0n. The firmware is on this site because that drive is so old that Sony isn't supporting it anymore.

I get error 2122 but think the following may be at fault.

My desktop computer burns from iTunes perfect in version 4.7.0.42 and 5.0.1.4. When I go to 6.x I can't do anything. Go to oldapps.com if you want an older version.

I CAN BURN on my laptop with new version. It is a toshiba sat M45-S331 with a matshita dvd-ram drive.

My PC is a dell with a teac dvd+rw dv-w58e, rev D.0n

Did find something sad and while I don't know much about computer programming here is my take. I think it has nothing to do with the drive, my drive works perfect and as evidence being able to burn in older generation iTunes.

I think in the new version, at least as far as I can tell, my bus address in my laptop for my cd drive is [0,0] but on my desktop the bus address is [1,0] for my burn drive.

I think some programmer at Apple took out ability to recognize two seperate bus addresses or to recognize address [1,0]

Opinions? I'm going to research how to change bus address on my drives and if can figure out will get back here. Or if someone else can, please replay to me by e-mail. You can send it to the following removing upper case letters:

deusirae1NOSPAM@yahoo.com

Thanks and good luck

I keep getting the 4310 error and unable to burn cd's. I changed the registry as you suggested. I loaded the cd first as someone suggested. I slowed the speed down. I've done everything. What else can I do? Here are my diagnostics:

coastaic21,

Error 4310 is "Illegal SCSI command request reported by CD recorder".

There doesn't appear to be new firmware for that drive, but the HP support page does have a newer USB driver for it. Yes, I know that page talks about the HP CD-Writer External 8220e Drive and you have a HP CD-Writer 8290 external drive, but according to this HP page, they're the same thing.

Have you tried different media?

Feb 14, 2006 2:35 PM in response to tobznagirl

tobznagirl,

I'm going to assume that you've gone to the support site for your computer. And that you've updated the "Intel Chipset Software Installation Utility" and the "nVidia 128 MB DDR Nvidia GeForce FX 5200" drivers.

I am confused about the firmware version on the drive. The firmware update from Dell is version A04 and you're running PD01 which is not even in the same range — did you update your firmware from a third party site?
