How to unlock my iPhone & SIM?

I've exceeded the number of times I can enter my passcode. Both my iPhone and SIM are locked.

When i switch on the iPhone, there's a red bar at the top. At the bottom, there's 'slide for emergency'. That's the only action I can perform. It just says 'SIM Locked' and does not even prompt me for my passcode.

When connected to iTunes, it says 'iTunes could not connect to iPhone because it is locked with a passcode. You must enter your passcode on the iPhone before it can be used with iTunes.' But how can I enter my passcode on the iPhone when I'm not prompted for it? My iPhone does not show up under 'Devices' as well. And iPhoneBrowser failed to detect it.

I then tried entering recovery mode http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1808 and iTunes was able to detect iPhone as a Device. However, it has been some time since my last backup so restoration will be my last resort. Is there a way for iPhoneBrowser to detect my iPhone so that I can remove my passcode without restoring? http://forum.gsmhosting.com/vbb/f456/iphone-ipod-touch-disabled-remove-passcode- w-o-restoring-itunes-722040/

Pls help! And many many thanks in advance!

You mentioned the SIM is locked. That's completely different than you forgot the lock screen password. A locked SIM will be burned and unusable once you enter the incorrect SIM password a certain number of times. The solution to that issue lies not in restoring your phone, but in getting a new SIM from your carrier.

Try that before you trash your data.

I used another iPhone and managed to unlock my SIM. But when I placed it back into my iPhone, it doesn't prompt me for my passcode and says that my SIM is locked.

Also when I inserted another SIM into my own iPhone, it says 'iPhone is disabled connect to iTunes'.

I supposed my problem lies with my iPhone and not my SIM? Pls advise!

And if I were to restore my iPhone back to its last backup (which is quite some time ago), will my whatsapp conversations and SMSes be lost? In other words, are my whatsapp conversations stored locally or on the internet server?
