Mac can't find Canon MP980 after upgrading to Lion

I have a Canon Pixma MP 980 multifunction unit that was working happily, wirelessly, under Snow Leopard. I upgraded to Lion today. The MP 980's icon in the dock became a '?'. I went to Canon's website and downloaded/installed all 10.7 drivers and restarted. In System Preferences, the mac can find the MP980 as a scanner but not a printer. It won't identify it as a printer. I can't add it as a printer. A Google search didn't turn up anything. Any ideas?

Thanks.

If I try to print something, no printer is available in the print drop down.

If I go to system preferences, printers and scanners, the MP980 is only available as a scanner, not a printer.

If I plug in the usb cable, the printer is findable and usable. Installing Lion, killed it off as a wireless printer.

I reinstalled the new 10.7 print drivers (actually everything they had, needed or not, was downloaded and updated). I ran their network tool and the network is found with the correct password. But the printer isn't findable.

Canon just sent me 12 pages ⚠ of instructions to try...

This worked. Basically, they had me go to the library/printers/canon folder and delete the BJ Printer folder. THen I went to the library/receipts folder and deleted all items other than Canon Printer Drivers.pkg. Then the library/image capture/twaid data sources folder and deleted all files related to my printer. Restart. Empty trash. Download new software (already done) -- so reinstalled it just to be safe. Then checked device settings/wireless on the mp980 and verified it was connected to my home wireless network.

I went to system preferences/printers and fax and found the printer and scanner idle and separate. I deleted both. It asked be to add it back (usb was unplugged through all of this). Not there! *#&(#^@ Then, after about 3 minutes, it suddenly appeared. I added it and the thing works as it did yesterday on Snow Leopard.
