Cannot send a group from my Address Book in an email

Hi:

I have a group in my address book consisting of 42 names (address cards).

Each address has its own address card (file).

When I drag the file (group name in the left panel of the address book) into the e-mail and hit send it has a warning that the "Group name" is not a valid email address.

I know in the past I have done that.

I cannot remember if I have done it since Lion was installed.

What I did now was to right click all the names and drag them into the send to line of the e-mail.

Can someone either tell me what I need to do to allow the drag and drop feature of the group card into the e-mail or if this ability has been eliminated in Lion.

I still think that MAIL should have its own discussion line.

Thanks,

Greg

I just created a new group a few days ago. I don't drag it though. Instead, in the Mail address field I start to type the group name. Since it's in Address book, the group pops up and I select it. That's it.

greg,

I set up a test group with a collection of my own email address. I dragged the group from AddressBook to the TO field in a new email. The message was sent and received with a little bit of strange behavior.

I have 4 Mailboxes. Normally, I just keep my view to of all the mailboxes to "Inbox" and I see all the messages that come from all the mailboxes. This time, all the emails that came in from the group could only be viewed in their individual mailboxes and not "Inbox". I'll have to figure out why that is happening, but dragging a group to the TO field does work.

I'm a little perplexed at why the messages can't be all viewed from my Inbox, rather than the individual mailboxes.. The only message in my Inbox is from my MobileMe account.

It must have something to do with sending 4 messages from my account to 4 of my own accounts.

The bottom line though, is mailing to a group by either dragging the group from AddressBook to the TO field , or typing the group name in the TO field works in Lion.

Greg, I would check to be sure all the email addresses in your group are formatted properly.

I really appreciate the quick responses.

The QUOTE :

I am not the best with the computer knowledge and am not sure what you mean ?

In the past and with this group that I set up all I did was to :

(1) Create a group I.E. 26 Acres.

(2) In the group Folder/file, I hit the + sign which opens a file card for the individual info :

First last name, Corporation, tel and emails, address and notes.

(3) I then go back to the Group and hit the + sign again and start the process over again

with the new person's info.

Please let me know if I did not compete the process.

Otherwise I will need to wait until I need to send the group out again.

I am retire so it is not often that I do this.

I will send out a joke to another Group and see what happens.

I normally do not send a joke to everyone.

Thanks for the help so far.

Ok, I checked all the cards and the email address are correct, in that they all have the @ and .

Only (1) card had a note in the notation section at the bottom, Is that an issue ?

Two things :

(1) Yesterday, I sent out the list by highlight the 43 cards (command +C) and sent them.

There was no issue with the e-mail being sent and I did not have any returned.

(2) There is a small envelope in your last line that has the email address.

Is that just icon that you placed there ?

It does not reproduce when I try to cut and paste it.

I just created a new group in mail and in addition to emails for each person it also has address, phone numbers, etc. I start typing the name of the group in the TO field and it is recognized but I am unable to expand the group within mail to see all the email address and am also unable to send the message. This has been the case since I upgraded to Lion.
