How to disable the dictionary pop up when typing in japanese

Dear all,

Being now an OS X Lion user, I have discovered that when one types in Japanese either in text editors, or just initiating a search routine in search boxes, while selecting the right kanji (hieroglyphs), the system shows one a dictionary field with the explanation for the pending kanji option (see photo below):

This takes place even, if one looks for a word in the very Dictionary app, hence it must be an OS featur, rather than an independent app occurrence.

I would be grateful, if you could tell how it is possible to disable this annoying "pop-up" feature.

Thank you in advance.

Dear Tom Gewecke,

Thank you for your help.

Creating a new user (even with the administrator level) had no effect whatsoever. I also noticed that holding down most letter keys (with the US layout, say) would not initiate the given character iteration, but would either provide one with a set of diacritical alternatives (accent grave, crema etc) or would just get the pointer stuck.

As to deleting .plist files in the library folder, I am not cognizant of all the consequnces that this action might entail (being no pro developer), therefore I would refrain from indescete and uncalculated tinkering with the OS.

I shall continue searching.

Qui quaerit, reperit, after all.
