Can't back up iPhone.

My iPhone seems to sync OK but at the end it says it can't back up because 'the back up was corrupt or not compatible with the phone'. Any ideas what I need to do?

Try: iTunes>Preferences>Devices...delete all iPhone backups listed here. Then, close iTunes, re-boot your computer, launch iTunes, connect your phone, hit the sync button.

iTunes places the backup files in the following places:

  • Mac: ~/Library/Application Support/MobileSync/Backup/
  • Windows XP: \Documents and Settings\(username)\Application Data\Apple Computer\MobileSync\Backup\
  • Windows Vista and Windows 7: \Users\(username)\AppData\Roaming\Apple Computer\MobileSync\Backup\

You will have to turn on show all hidden files & folders to see them. Close iTunes, delete everything in the folder, but not the folder itself. Re-boot your computer & try again.
