IPad link symbol

Hi

My wifi turned off earlier, when if did a network with the name of my iMac came up, and clicked on it. I now have a symbol that looks like a chain link next to my cell signal.

What is this, and what does it mean?

How an I connected to my network? The wifi signal is no longer displayed.

No - not really - only if you did not have WiFi.

I don't have WiFi in my office at work so I share my iMac's ethernet connected internet connection with my iPad there. But again, only becuase I do not have WiFi.
